As an inveterate, self-made “connoisseur” of distinctive artworks, fine literature, collectibles, and home furnishings, I dreamed of placing the entirety of my varied collections ― with the greatest sense of fulfillment — within the vast, yet embracing spaces of an historic mansion, preferably an edifice renowned for its great visual appeal, statuesque grandeur, and quality craftsmanship. 

     Perhaps any one of these majestic homes had stood empty for a period of time, and it quietly and persistently beckoned me to consider becoming its new mistress and caretaker, so that it might contentedly resume its glory-days. Such homes yearn for a return to their earlier liveliness, purpose, and handsome stature...

       Author F. Hopkinson Smith best encapsulates this philosophy in the 1912 book titled Charcoals of Old New York, in the chapter pertaining to the Jumel Mansion ...

      Striving to bring long-stored-but-unseen collections out of the shadows, my intention was to stock the library with my finest books, furnish the spacious rooms in the manner of a stately Victorian villa, and delightedly dress the verandah with garlands, sparkling lights and gleaming lanterns.  To onlookers, it seemed as if I had embarked on an exercise in grandiosity; a rebalancing was in order; thus, home-treasures.com came into being.
